“There is a reason for everything.” How often have I heard/read this phrase over the last little while to describe crazy life happenings? Many times people add God to the phrase “Well, God has a reason for everything.” Then tag on the “Well, God must be wanting to teach me something.” And we get a picture of a God who is up there pulling puppet strings causing things to happen to us in life to teach us lessons. But when I look at Jesus and the things that He did, I find that these phrases paint a picture of a God I do not want to serve. When we say that “God must have a reason,” we are saying that it is He who caused the circumstances to go awry, He who caused the cancer to come into our loved one’s life, the miscarriage, the job loss. Somewhere in the universe God is sitting and playing with us like we are Barbie Dolls and GI Joes… pawns in some big elaborate drama that He is creating. Victim of… Betrayal. Disappointment. Neglect. Abuse. Hurt. Deceived. Abandoned. Embarrassed.
Choose… Resentment. Bitterness. Anger. Retaliation. Hold on. Re-create. Pain.
Becoming… Dark. Angry. Alone. Lost. Despairing. Hopeless.
Each time a person enters the cycle, they sink deeper into defensiveness, walls are built, and their relationships grow more and more destructive.
So how do we escape this cycle? Continue reading The Faith to Forgive
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
As a new believer (many years ago now), I encountered the power of God’s Word. I watched it do many things, because when God speaks something happens. There are two limiting factors: Our belief in it and our knowledge of it.
Over my years as a youth pastor, I realized that a quick look at Scripture was better than no look, and knowing where to find a verse about a subject in the Bible was an incredible value to any believer. I gave out topical Bibles for many years to graduates of the youth group, and I heard many stories of how…. Continue reading Rock View Software Releases Topical Scriptures App
This year Rock View hosted a Halloween Party at a playground near two apartment complexes near our current building. Our original thought was that the kids would be out “Trick-Or-Treating” and we would be stop on the “tour” of apartments and houses in the area. We arrived and set up our two games and snacks and kids began to arrive. At first they were shy and timid, but after a few rounds of “Pick-A-Pop” or “Toss the Bean Bag in the Pumpkin Face”, they were laughing and playing with abandon. In the midst of the fun a few kids asked if we were going to come back for Christmas……
Because of that innocent question, the wheel of ideas began to spin in our minds. So this Saturday, December 17th, Rock View Church is going to take over the playground again. We are looking forward to connecting with these precious ones, sharing with them the fun of the season, and most importantly why we are celebrating it. Our creative team has some amazing things planned, including crafts, games, Birthday cake for Jesus, and a Candy Bash. We appreciate your prayers this week as we finish up our final details, and if anyone wants to join us in serving that day, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org. We are so excited about this chance to connect again with these kids and hopefully more! Remember today the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:8. “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” These kids asked- and now they will receive, and we pray that in this season of asking for things of the world, that you won’t forget to ask reason for the season (Jesus), to be a part of all that you do.
It’s been a while since you all have had a true blog update, and I apologize for not keeping you more in the loop. The last few months have been a whirlwind of activity from event to event and another building move.
In September, we joined up with the City of Kent to participate in the Kent Business Expo. We had a great time meeting other business owners and those who came to check out the expo. This event coincided with the Bite of Kent, and we were able to eat some amazing food from companies in our area. We had some really wonderful conversations, with people who love Jesus and planted seeds with those who are yet to know Him. We met local TV commercial producer and have some things in the works for the future.
October came and we began getting ready for our Halloween Parties. We decided to host two this year. One in our neighborhood, as a part of the neighborhood mystery house tour and one a few blocks from our building at a public playground between two large apartment buildings. Then we got “the phone call”. Continue reading Expos, Candy, and Moving Again
